Some people give things away to conduct social experiments (see above), some give things away because they have too much and want to share it with others, and some people give things away because they desperately want to be popular. I am one of the latter. So in a bid to be more popular I’m going to start doing some giveaways. It looks like it has worked for people like NewbieDm and Matt James so I’m going to see if it will work for me. You might ask “don’t both of those guys have tons of really useful content on their websites and are huge contributors to the game in general, isn’t that why they are popular?” and to that I would say “Shut up!”. No seriously I understand that my site has only 11 posts thus far (not counting this one) and not all of them are all that useful, and that most people earn their readers and only supplement their numbers by doing random giveaways. I’m doing this because A. it is fun, and I have gotten tons of free stuff in my life and giving a little from time to time is always fun, and #2. I’m doing this site because I want feedback on my ideas and 11 visitors a week really isn’t drumming up much in the way of comments. So here comes the short cut.
This week I have teamed up with my bank account to give away a four pack of gaming paper! It can be either squares or hexes I’ll leave it up to the winner to decide. For those who don’t know what gaming paper is, I’ll give you the skinny. Gaming paper is disposable battle mat paper, no special pens are needed, no clean up, and no mess. It’s really easy to use, and it’s huge. Each sheet is 30 square feet. That’s a lot of dungeon you can fit on there. I was going to give away a set of Harrowing Halls dungeon tiles but Gator Games and NewbieDM beat me to it. I don’t want to totally copy them so I decided gaming paper would be the next best thing. I just decided I would throw a copy of Hammerfast on the pile. So The winner of this weeks giveaway will get to choose either 4 rolls of gaming paper or a copy of Hammerfast.

The Rules are very simple. All you have to do is follow me on twitter @thadeousC and leave a comment on this page with your twitter name. I’ll pick the winner at random next Monday the 15th of March. I will contact the winner Via direct message through twitter and later announce it to the general public on the site. Un-following right after you sign up will disqualify you since I wont be able to send a DM.
Good luck everyone!
T.

Love the idea of giving away gaming paper to a lucky twitter follower… plays2much_DnD us now following you
March 9, 2010 at 7:33 am
@countingku here.
Good luck with your contest, sir.
I would suggest you offer an RSS feed for your blog in general, makes it a lot easier to follow a blog when the new posts pop in your reader.
March 9, 2010 at 9:01 am
I think I can set that up.
March 9, 2010 at 10:21 pm
I just added your RSS feed to my RSS reader. I think since you have a wordpress blog it’s already set up.
March 9, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Just created a Twitter account just for all my D&D activities. Your contest is what pushed me over the edge. I really enjoy Gaming Paper. I use it with my 5-year old son to conduct clashes between our growing collection of miniatures. Quality material.
I really enjoyed your article about interviewing players and DMs. I find myself in the same position. All my friends that game are all over the country now. I am still looking for a good D&D table in Central New York. Look forward to reading more from you.

@eugenekatz – getting in on the ground level
Thinking about it, I don’t really need gaming paper that much (got a flip mat), but hey, it’s a contest! Probably would just hand it over to my DM if I win.

@guedo79 is now following you.
Nice site, btw.
March 9, 2010 at 4:01 pm
@kallahan11 , however don’t add me to the contest, I work for Gamingpaper. Just trying to drum up some support.

HAHA, I love how I randomly found your blog via a link and *BLAM* my name was there! Anything I can do to steer people your way- let me know
@matt_james_rpg
Oh, and if you happen to pick my name randomly, I will pass the prize on and beef it up for anyone who signs up on Loremaster.org and mentions this reply
March 9, 2010 at 10:06 pm
Consider yourself followed. (Look over your shoulder, you might see me there.)

@Jarza_Quinntes
Giving away stuff seems to be the easiest and quickest way to get your name/site out there for everyone to notice seeing as almost no one will ever pass up the possibility for something free. Getting peoples attention is the easy part keeping it is the hard part.
March 9, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Well I don’t need their full attention, I just need it for about five to ten minutes a week or so. Is that any easier?
March 9, 2010 at 10:12 pm
I’m following you now as @atras126 , you can blame Matt James for that.
March 9, 2010 at 10:12 pm
@jmpress, entering the contest. Don’t forget that you also have to be following people back to DM them!
March 9, 2010 at 10:54 pm
I don’t think that will be a problem, I don’t really mind following those who follow me, I’m no celebrity just a guy who likes D&D and free stuff
March 9, 2010 at 10:18 pm
I’m in for free stuff! Now following you with the twitter name @DrOct
March 9, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Hey, I’ll follow for free stuff! @steve_the_dm … and probably even check out your site…
March 9, 2010 at 10:58 pm
I’ll follow you for a shot at some Gaming Paper. Been meaning to pick some up, just haven’t yet.
Following you with @TehGecko

Following you with @TehGecko
D&D and Free Stuff. It doesn’t get much better than that.
March 9, 2010 at 11:05 pm
Wow, got impatient on the first comment. Now I’ve left three. Too bad I don’t have anything better to say.
March 9, 2010 at 11:15 pm
Subscribed to your twitter feed AND sites RSS feed! @Saeblundr wants a book!
I followed @Matt_James_RPG advice, as he is the better James Brother.

Following with @alvarlux
I love how the DnD community is using Twitter these days.
March 9, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Hey, I appreciate the willingness to shell out for followers. I’m game! I was looking for some D&D people to follow anyway, you just bought yourself a friend!
@Macadosche is following you now.
March 10, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Haha, great idea, I may have to steal it just to get feedback for my blog too!
I’ve been following you on Twitter for awhile, but now I’ll add your blog’s RSS to my reader…
March 10, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Ha, so excited to comment, I forgot my Twitter handle: @awmyhr (you’ll find me w/that handler pretty much everywhere I hang…)
March 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Don’t worry about stealing the idea, I took it from someone else and no one has come after me for it yet
March 10, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Gimme free stuff!
@reyemile following you already.
March 10, 2010 at 4:10 pm
As I said on Twitter, consider me bought. And I have subscribed to the blog, can’t wait to see what else you come up with.

Hey there! Good luck with your contest. I have one on my blog as well (for Martial Power 2) – we’ll see how well they work out, maybe compare notes and such
@DMSamuel on twitter – I’m following you.
my blog is 4egaming.wordpress.com – check it out!
March 12, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Enjoying the follow so far. You are not annoying or too weird…
March 13, 2010 at 10:24 am
@Canageek here! I’d like to enter the contests for a copy of Hammerfast. I must say gaming paper strikes me as being very unenvironmentally friendly compared to a battlemat. Also I already have 3 flipmats.
–Canageek
March 13, 2010 at 10:33 am
I’m @semifamous.
And I like to win free stuff.
You know what might be cool? Two winners? Let the first winner pick their prize, then give the second winner the second option (like the Showcase Showdown on The Price is Right?)
I’d pick the book, because we just use Hallmark wrapping paper instead of gaming paper. It has the nice 1″ grid lines on the inside. They’re light and good for drawing on/around, but visible enough when you’re moving your mini.
March 13, 2010 at 12:53 pm
I was going to give away both if I hit 100 entries, but it looks like that won’t happen. What will happen though is which ever prize is not given away will be the prize of my next giveaway. I’ll probably start that one in about a week or so. But right now the entries are just over 30 so if you want me to give away both you better get the word out.
