A little about me! This is my Desk.

I was sitting at my desk today cleaning it off and I began to think, “my desk is pretty neat!” So being that my desk in neat I thought I would share it with the world. I have a couple pictures of my desk back in one of my first posts but today I’ll get a bit more in depth about it.

I live in a really small apartment in Portland OR. I moved down here from Seattle about a year ago to be with my girlfriend and to go to school. I left behind a nice house I had purchased about 5 years ago and with that house I left behind a ton of room. My house has 5 bedrooms, my apartment has 1, so I had to get rid of a ton of stuff. Moving in with my long time girlfriend also meant I had to keep the nerd level to a minimum. Steph is really awesome though and she lets me keep the desk how ever I want it, so I lost a whole house of geekyness but I now get my own little corner in which to geek out!

So this is where the magic happens! You can click on the image to get a larger view of what is going on here.

We will start the tour with the far right side of the desk. On the floor there is my new carrying case, and my file bin. In the file folder I keep all of the printed monster stats I have ever used. I can find them and reuse them in a pinch, my attempt to be more green. Yes that is my router on top of the file folder, I keep it down there so my signal reached the Starbucks below our apartment so I don’t have to pay them for internet. I’m not cheap but I hate paying for internet when I am 200 feet from my apartment.

Continuing to the left just a bit we have my framed Bender postcard because some times we need to be reminded to keep our robots clean! In front of Bender would be my robot. He is a pencil sharpener from Think Geek, I love those guys! My robot is guarding my Tardis, or Time and Relative Dimension in Space USB hub. Domo-Kun is holding all my pens and pencils in place right next to my monitor there. And on the far left side of the picture would be my USB mini fridge! I will never be with out a cool root-beer while writing again!

Oh man! Where to start with this one? I have a chill monk practicing on top of my mini fridge there, in front of my WoW collectors boxes, which are next to all of my wine books. I don’t talk about it much on this site but I love wine. I actually used to be a wine director for a really well known steak house. In my best year I sold over 3 million $$ in wine. Not bad if I do say so my self.  My laptop lives right there in front of all of my smart looking books. I pulled all of my hard backs in my house to put on my desk so I look all regal and what not. My laptop is pretty sweet, it’s an HP touchscreen tablet/laptop. That’s right it’s a touch screen and a tablet, forget the I-pad I’m covered. Also making an appearance in this picture is Bumble Bee (the real bumble bee not this new impostor) some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle playing cards and my dice bag, though my dice bag does not live there.

And now we come to the top of the desk. Poor Mr. Potato Head is constantly being harassed by some pretty bad dudes. I think the gargantuan blue dragon is his biggest problem though. Behind that motley crew is my meat lunch box, my old DnD minis case before it was replaced.   There are also pictures in the background of my niece and nephew, Steph and me at thanksgiving, some sea shells painted by Molly Preston, and a really sweet plant which was a house warming gift. Below all of them are my DnD books!

That is right I buy books! I have a subscription to DDI but I can’t subsist off online content alone. I have been a reader all my life and I need to feel some pages turning. I enjoy sitting in a big comfy chair with a cup of tea and a book in my hands. I really enjoy reading through a DnD book with out my computer or twitter pinging in the background. So I have a fat collection of books and at the moment I have two more in the mail. I’ll keep WotC in business by my self if I have to!

And there you have it! My desk. I am a total office junkie. I love to see other people’s work space. There is just something exciting about a space designed and utilized by creative people. I admit I do a ton of my writing in coffee houses, but while at home it is always nice to have a little cozy corner of geekdom to call my own and get down to being creative.

Do you have a killer office or desk? Is there something special about where you enjoy writing or planning? Post some pictures in the comments, I would love to see some amazing work spaces.
